Changing lives by sharing God’s love and hope with children in need

“I tell you the truth, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me.”  Matthew 25:40

FAIRVIEW BAPTIST CHURCH: LOVE OUR LOCALS

It is always amazing to watch as various groups from our community show up at the Mission House and take on special projects that beautify our property and make life so much easier for those who volunteer at the Mission House on a regular basis. On Wednesday, May 4th a group of 11 members from Fairview Baptist Church came to the Mabopane Mission House to “spruce up” the yard and outside of the house. Every year Fairview Baptist does a week-long local missions event called “Love Our Locals”. Each day of the week different people go to serve our local community at various locations (including Mabopane, With Love From Jesus, Hand of Hope Crisis Pregnancy Center, Able to Serve, Crossing All Borders—to name a few).

At Mabopane the group was able to plant shrubs outside of the new storage building, put up part of the parking lot fencing, wash the outside of the mission house windows, plant some trees and move around some clothing and other items for an upcoming pop-up sale! What a blessing to those who served and to the Mabopane family!

TO OUR MINISTRY FRIENDS

Dear Ministry Friends,

Words cannot express how grateful I am for all of you. Your actions have truly touched my heart!

Not only have you given but you have given your very best in your time, talent and treasure, even during some dark and challenging times. Thanks to you, our Pop-Up Sales and financial support continues, thus offering the hope and help needed for beautiful Ya Bana Village and the precious children living there to thrive.

John 8:12 says, “When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness but have the light of life.”

Thank you for letting your light shine and extending your love to others. You are always on my heart and in my prayers, and I thank God for you! You are sweet, sweet blessings indeed!

With love,

Becky

HEARTS AND HANDS

In this edition, we recognize volunteers Nelson and Elizabeth Jones for extending their hearts and hands to help out at the Mabopane Mission House over the past few years. Here is their story as told by Elizabeth.
“I first learned of Mabopane when my Small Group from church was looking for a way to give back and volunteer as a group. We met with Becky and she told her story of her desire to reach out to orphaned children in Africa. I love the way she described how God took her out of her comfort zone and gave her a boldness to care for His children. It is amazing what God can do with one obedient believer.

I’m a nurse, so I tend to have a few days off during the week. I usually stop in one day a week and help organize The Man Cave. All the volunteers at Mabopane are amazing and I am loving getting to know them. Becky is always around with a ray of sunshine and an encouraging word.

My husband, Nelson, is a Brew Believer. The Brew Believers help out with heavy lifting and moving items in preparation for the next sale. We’ve worked together at some of the sales. I’m usually at the Cashier Counter and he is usually offering Manly Help. It’s so nice to be able to work together to make a big impact on so many young lives.”

YOU TOO CAN BE A VOLUNTEER!

Looking for something worthwhile to do? Serving at the Mabopane Mission House may be your special calling. We invite you to come out and see for yourself. There is no shortage of activities where you can utilize your time, energy, and talent. And there isn’t a better group of individuals on the planet with whom to work side by side. There is a real spirit of camaraderie at the Mission House.

Areas where volunteers can get involved include the following:

Pre-Sale: sorting, cleaning, pricing, decorating, and arranging donation sale items
Baking: providing baked goods for the weekend pop-up sales
Pop-Up Sales: captain, cashiers, leaders, floaters
Administrative: clerical support, newsletter, web, booking, IT support
Building & Grounds: painting and general maintenance

Martin Luther King, Jr. is credited with saying: “Somewhere along the way, we must learn that there is nothing greater than to do something for others.”

VOLUNTEERING AT THE VILLAGE

The Significance of Ya Bana Village in My Life

by Naomi Brink

“I was first introduced to Ya Bana Village in 2016. My daughter’s church group wanted to volunteer at Ya Bana, and I offered to drive the girls to Ya Bana Village. What impressed me most at the Village were the bookshelves full of books in each house. I immediately started reading stories to the little ones. I suspect I enjoyed it more than they did!

Naomi and Aphelele

I am now involved at Ya Bana Village for the children on a regular but part-time basis. My responsibilities are creating awareness, marketing, and fundraising. One more responsibility about which I am most passionate is assisting the children with their life plans. This entails careful monitoring of their school results, interests, talents, and abilities. Placing the children in the correct schools for their individual needs and abilities is a key and integral part of their journey towards independence.

This is the thing about being involved: "I receive much more than I give at Ya Bana Village. Sometimes you feel like your life is just about work, eating and sleeping. Being involved in something bigger than my immediate life enriches my life further."

IT’S ALMOST TIME …….

….time for our 9th annual Mabopane Foundation Benefit the Children Golf Tournament. This is one of our most enjoyable and most successful fund-raising events of the year. The tournament will be held once again at the Lonnie Poole Golf Course—this year on Monday, October 3.
This tournament is a golfer’s dream. Golfers enjoy premium play on one of the area’s most prestigious golf courses. Exceptional prizes are awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place teams as well as other opportunities through raffles and contests.

Right now we are looking for sponsors, teams, and prizes to assure another incredible event.
